What is Edible Forest Gardening?
Forest Gardening is the growing of fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, other useful plants, and animals in a way that mimics natural ecosystems, and is more than the sum of its parts. Through careful design we can create beautiful, diverse, and high yielding perennial gardens that are also largely self-maintaining
Design an Actual Garden
In this two-day workshop we will focus in on the design of the Ananda Gaorii forest garden, taking into consideration the site and its preexisting natural and human made features. We will learn about succession in nature, the 7 layers of a forest garden, use observation techniques, mapping and development of plant guilds and polycultures. We will use design exercises and do practical work in the forest garden and start learning about foraging edibles. Come prepared to put pencil to paper, work in the garden and learn the intricacies of planning for high yielding perennial forest gardening.
